CAPS is a family oriented paddlesports club based in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
We aim to promote and provide amateur canoeing facilities in County Antrim, by providing coaching, competitive and recreational opportunities whilst ensuring a duty of care to all members of the club
What types of Paddling do we do?
Open Boat Canoeing
We do a mixture of open boating, including flat water touring and whitewater river runs. Most members have their own canoes and we also have a couple of club canoes, along with sailing rigs
River Kayaking
Our club members are equally at home in kayaks or canoes. Members paddle a mixture of creekers, playboats, C1's and C2's and enjoy runs on rivers throughout the province when water levels allow.
Sea Kayaking
Although we are not a coastal club, many of our members do enjoy sea kayaking and so we occaisonally organise sea paddles throughout the year. Sea Kayaks are also often used for some of our river touring on the larger rivers as they lend themselves to longer distance paddling on flat water
Competitive Slalom
Throughout the year there are paddling competitions organsied by CANI and other groups and these include slalom competitions. Held at Ballyconnell and Shawsbridge. Our members always support these events and historically perform very well across the various divisions and classifications
Competitive Racing
Throughout the year there are paddling competitions organsied by CANI and other groups and these include flat water competitive racing competitions. Held on Loughs and rivers throughout the province, our members always support these events and historically perform very well across the various categories. Go on Davey the boy ye!
SUP (Stand-up Paddleboarding)
Supboarding is fast becoming one of the most popular paddling disciplines and for good reason. Our club now own 4 SUP boards. We also have a number of qualified SUP Board Instructors in our ranks
Kayak Surfing
Many of our members enjoy surfing. It is a great learning discipline teaching balance and edging. It can be done with specialist surf boats but it is just as much fun in your river kayak. Don't forget your goggles and nose clips!
Safety Training
Our club puts owness on keeping every members skills up to date. When it comes to rescue skills, Use them or loose them is the mantra. We like to practice these skills during club nights and do so as a club
Multi-day Touring
This is the mainstay of our club activites because it is suitable for such a large variety of paddling experiences and vessels. Our Junior members in particular enjoy these trips, filled as they are with fresh air and wildlife galour. We regularly spot Heron, Swan, Kingfisher, Otters, Mink to name just a few. We often combine these trips with overnight camping as well. Campfire anyone?
